NEW LEADERS AT LABEL LEADERS

- GEORGE NEWSNEW LEADERS AT LABEL LEADERS

From left are Theo Raubenheimer, Ben Raubenheimer, Jeanette Raubenheimer and Renè Koen.
Advertorial

GEORGE NEWS - In 1995, Ben and Jeanette Raubenheimer founded Label Leaders in George with a single three-colour press and three staff members in a 110m² factory. They could never have dreamt that 23 years later they would employ 38 people and have a 2 000m² state-of-the-art factory.

There is now a studio where they produce their own plates, four pre-press machines, five printing presses, three finishing machines and four high-speed rewinders.

Their newest edition of finishing machines can do print jobs with exceptional precision and is the only of its kind in Africa.

Label Leaders is a thriving label printing operation that's one of few, if not the only, narrow-web flexographic printers between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth!

Ben and Jeanette Raubenheimer have decided to retire and since last year the day-to-day operational management has been in the capable hands of Theo Raubenheimer and René Koen, son and daughter of the founding members - both now directors and shareholders.

Label Leaders operates its own in-house DTP department. They pride themselves that they have gained the marketing knowledge to advise clients on designing the most effective label to sell their product. It is never "just a label".

Over the years Label Leaders has constantly invested in technology, acquiring the latest presses to stay ahead of the ever-changing need of their clients.

Label Leaders will continue their vision as a family business that will lead in technology, but service and quality will never be compromised. They live their motto: "Let's grow together!"

Visit George

- GEORGE NEWS

The city of George is nestled in the heart of the Garden Route.

George is the sixth oldest city in South Africa and has a growing population of approximately 190 000. Centrally situated, this one-of-a-kind city lies halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth and is a mere stone’s throw away from endless stretches of beautiful and pristine beaches.

Beautiful city
Known for its breathtaking scenery – from the foothills of the majestic Outeniqua Mountains to the indigenous Fynbos forests and sweeping coastline of the Indian Ocean – George is often referred to as one of South Africa’s most beautiful cities. As a preferred holiday destination all year round, George offers a tantalising blend of old world charm, natural beauty and local treasures.

It is believed that this beautiful part of the world was first explored in 1688 in the hope of finding fresh water and food. The city was eventually named after King George III, England’s reigning monarch at the time, and was declared a drostdy by the Earl of Caledon in 1811.

So much to do
George has something for everybody and visitors are always welcomed with open arms by the city’s friendly residents.

A visit to the city would simply not be complete without exploring the treasures of the Montagu and Outeniqua Passes and historical landmarks such as the Pacaltsdorp Stone Church – the oldest church in George - and the ancient slave tree in York Street. Other must-see attractions include the Railway Museum, the ever-popular Hop Route, the Museum – a collection of local gems – and the beautiful greenery of the Garden Route Botanical Garden at the top of Caledon Street.

The Garden Route has a mediterrranean climate with mild to chilly winters and moderately hot summers. During the warmer months - November to March - the cool water of the Indian Ocean is the perfect ending to a long, hot day.

Temperatures generally start cooling down from April. Because of it's mild climate, George is the ideal setting for outdoor adventure. Thrill-seekers can enjoy adrenaline-pumping activities such as hiking, abseiling, canoeing, surfing and hang-gliding throughout the year.

Golfing is a huge attraction in George and annually over 150 000 rounds are played on our beautifully maintained fairways and greens. And with world-class golf courses such as the George Golf Club, Oubaai, Fancourt and Kingswood all within minutes of the city centre, it is not difficult to see why George is the golfing hub of the Garden Route and often referred to as ‘Golfer's Paradise’. George truly offers a golfing experience that is comparable with the very best in the world.

Business
The city of George boasts a sophisticated infrastructure with a host of banks, conference facilites and modern, convenient shopping destinations – including leading chain stores. Top restaurants and coffee shops in and around George will ensure a dining experience like no other while visitors can relax and unwind after a long day’s exploring at one of our many local guest houses, bed & breakfasts or convenient self-catering resorts. The recently upgraded George Airport ensures that George is the ideal platform from which to explore the entire Garden Route.

George is truly the city for all reasons!

VICKI MOMBERG TO APPEAL HER SENTENCE

- IN GENERAL
The convicted racist is back in court, seeking to have her conviction and sentence overturned.

Vicki Momberg to appeal her sentence

NATIONAL NEWS - The person who hold the dubious honour of being the first in South Africa to be jailed for her use of the k-word – Vicki Momberg – will be appealing both her sentence and conviction at the Randburg Magistrate’s court on Monday.

Momberg was released on R2,000 bail in August, four months into her effective two year sentence for crimen injuria.

It was second time lucky for Momberg in July after she was granted leave to appeal her prison sentence, following the denial of the same request in April.

The former estate was found guilty of four counts of crimen injuria in November 2017 after a racist tirade which saw her use ‘the k-word’ 47 times when speaking to a police officer who was attempting to help her after she was the victim of a smash-and-grab incident.

Crimen injuria is defined as a wilful injury to someone’s dignity, caused by the use of obscene or racially offensive language or gestures.

Senior public prosecutor Yusuf Baba confirmed that Momberg’s lawyer would meet him to finalise the details of the appeal and said an application for bail, pending the appeal would also be discussed.

Momberg was sentenced in March to three years imprisonment with one year suspended for racially abusing the officer.

“Respect for one another is sacracent, we are all human beings,” said Magistrate Pravina Raghoonandan while handing over her sentence at the time.

“This case has become public interest and while some may think the sentence is harsh … It must send out a clear message for people who use the K-word.”

She said she viewed Momberg’s actions as intentional as the police officer was merely doing his job when she verbally abused him.

At the time of the dismissal of Momberg’s first leave of appeal in April, the state argued that the application for leave to appeal by her defence was “defective” and should be dismissed because it is vague.

State prosecutor Yusuf Baba read evidence that was provided during the trial to the court which he said were not grounds for the defence to apply for leave to appeal the sentence and conviction.

MONDAY MORNING FIRES UPDATE

- GEORGE NEWSGarden Route District JOC fire update @ 08:30.
Monday, 05 November 2018, 08:50

Monday morning fires update

This photo was taken in George by Dominik Dimatellis.

GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The evening was cool with low speed winds from east but turned to the NE during the early hours of the morning. These conditions reduced the running lines on the northern fireline and reduced the heat intensity of flare ups along these lines.

They did, however, raise fire lines on the southern fireline.

Firelines were active in the de Vlugt area and in the SW of the fire. Flare ups were contained through the evening and early hours of the morning. Flare ups are at the moment minimal and are addressed in short periods of time.

Many lines have effectively been contained but the long distances and accessibility of lines do make mopping up slow and difficult in places.

The weather for today is predicted to be 11°C on average for the day and the wind will remain at about 12km/h predominantly from the south, 6mm of rain is expected across all divisions, however this may be less on the northern side of the mountains.

These conditions are conducive to mopping up activities and increased ground crew resources, if effectively managed, can result in the current 30% containment areas to increase to 80 % containment by the end of the next four operational periods.

It is planned to replace some of the exhausted Incident Management Teams (IMT) members with rested fresh staff. The cool rainy conditions do allow a good rest opportunity for the regional staff allowing them to resume positions in the period which shows hotter weather later in the week. Briefing meetings have improved in efficiency and line staff are attending, allowing for improved quality of assignment tasking and better communications throughout the operational period.

Injuries: None

HEROLD TO GEORGE
The southern line on Jonkersberg fire and Groeneweide Farm have not joined yet. Active lines moved south during the evening were anchored on old plantation roads and suppressed where possible. No threats at this point. Plantation lines on the urban interface have been well contained with good scratch lines and effective mopping up. Northern area at Highlands lodge has been contained and are currently mopping up.

BUFFELSNEK TO GEORGE
Lines are mostly being mopped up and containment actions are progressing. Activities are still focussed on the Goudveld hot lines.
